Mayor Gavin Newsom, Board of Supervisors President Aaron Peskin and the chief of San Francisco's public transit agency said Monday they are committed to the long-planned central subway project to bring rail service into Chinatown.
Why stop at Chinatown? This project should include a line that will run out to the Marina district. If the line is going to run down Market Street anyway, it would make perfect sense to have a line that would connect the Downtown/Financial District with the Marina District and even North Beach.
This would undoubtably reduce the amount of traffic downtown, and increase the number of shoppers to the downtown area who stay away for traffic reasons.
